Bubble Science Incursion at Lakeview Preschool

A day of bubbles, science and discovery at Lakeview Preschool

We were so excited to visit Lakeview Preschool for a special day of bubble science and discovery as part of National Science Week 2026.

From sensory bubble play with the younger children to hands-on experiments, giant bubbles and plenty of scientific wondering with the older children, it was a wonderful day of exploring what happens when we ask:

“What will happen if…?”

A Sensory Bubble Experience

For our youngest children, the bubbles became a wonderful sensory experience filled with movement, colour and excitement.

The children watched the bubbles float, chased them, reached out to touch them and discovered what happened when they popped. It was a simple but engaging way to explore movement, air and cause and effect through play.

There were plenty of smiles and excited reactions as the children followed the bubbles around the room and began making their own discoveries.

Professor Pop’s Bubble Lab

The older children stepped into the Bubble Lab and became scientists for the morning! 🧪

We explored some of the amazing things bubbles can do, with hands-on experiments designed to encourage curiosity, prediction and discovery.

The children watched bubbles join and separate, twist and move, and even explored bubbles filled with swirling vapour. Along the way, we talked about air, gases, surface tension, movement, forces, light and colour.

Rather than simply watching, the children were encouraged to ask questions, make predictions and observe what happened — putting their scientific thinking into action.

The Magic of Giant Bubbles

One of the biggest highlights of the day was the giant bubble experience!

The children had the chance to watch enormous bubbles float through the air, chase them, try to catch them and even experience the excitement of being inside a giant bubble.

It’s always wonderful seeing the children’s reactions when they realise they can actually stand inside a bubble!

There was plenty of laughter and excitement as the children explored the giant bubbles and discovered just how big a bubble can become.

Learning through Wonder and Discovery

What makes the Bubble Lab so special is the way science and play come together. The children weren’t just watching bubbles — they were wondering, noticing, predicting, experimenting and discovering.

Every bubble created an opportunity to ask questions and explore what might happen next. Through hands-on experiences and plenty of curiosity, the children were introduced to real scientific ideas in a way that felt exciting, playful and memorable.

It was wonderful to see the children so engaged and enthusiastic about science throughout the day.
